The primary purpose of the journal, which has scientific qualifications in English and Turkish at national and international level, is to serve medicine on a national and international scale as a means of producing and disseminating science. It also aims to create a continuous education platform by publishing articles in all fields of surgery, and to help increase the academic skills of physicians in surgical branches, especially research assistants and specialists trained in surgical sciences.

The written languages of Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine Journal of Surgical Medical Sciences are English and Turkish. It started its broadcasting life by being published 3 times (February-July-December) as of 2022 and will be published again 3 times (April-August-December) in different months as of 2023. It is a scientific, peer-reviewed journal published only in electronic environment, aiming to reach all national medical institutions and individuals free of charge. Open access conditions have been accepted by our journal. (Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 (CC BY-NC)) Research articles, case reports, review articles and letters to editor within the scope of surgical medical sciences will be accepted.


Articles, cases, and reviews submitted to our journal should not have been published before and should not be evaluated by another journal at the same time. The corresponding author must declare that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the article. Articles are accepted for publication with the understanding that the authors will allow for editorial changes. However, the final version of the article is sent to the responsible author before the printing phase. The decision to accept/reject an article belongs to the Editorial Board of our journal. "Preliminary evaluation, referee evaluations, and all processes related to publication in our journal depend on the quality of the article you submit, the result of the plagiarism report, and the proficiency of a proper Turkish and English language. The plagiarism checking of the articles is made with the "iThenticate" plagiarism evaluation report.

The text of the article (including English title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, References and Figure explanations) should be sent as a text file in .doc format. Tables (doc) and Figures should be presented as jpg after the bibliography. All text files including table and figure captions/explanations should be prepared in Times New Roman font.

Preparation of the Article:

The publication languages ​​of the journal are Turkish and English.
The text of the article should be written in 12-point Times New Roman font, single-spaced, and with 2.5 cm margins from all sides.
Each page should be numbered in the lower right corner.
Abbreviations should be in parentheses when first appearing in the text and should be used in all articles.
All authors are required to expressly declare whether they have any actual or potential conflicts of interest, including financial, personal, or other relationships, with other individuals or organizations that could improperly affect their work.
The text can be organized with the following headings:

For research articles;

Introduction; Material and method; Results; Discussion; Conclusion; Thanks; conflict of interest; Financial Support and References.

For case reports;

Introduction; Case ; Results; Discussion; Conclusion; Thanks; conflict of interest; Financial Support and References.

Headings and subheadings in the article should be numbered.

The title page should contain the main title and short title of the article, the names of the authors, the names of the institutions, ORCIDs, addresses, and e-mail addresses of all authors.
Subject Headings should be given with an Abstract of no more than 400 words along with 3-5 keywords. Keywords should express the full content of the article they are used for indexing purposes. Abbreviations and nomenclature list in alphabetical order, non-standard abbreviations (excluding references) should be given after keywords with their definitions. If necessary, abbreviations used in the text can also be listed here with their full explanations.
While uploading the article to the system, the title page, cover letter, full text of the article (without author information) and tables (manuscript and tables), and the article author transfer form (copyright form) must be uploaded to the system separately.

Summary

An abstract should be sent with all applications. Abstracts should be divided into Objectives, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion sections and should not exceed 250-350 words. There should be an abstract in English and Turkish for each article.

Please provide 3 to 5 keywords that can be used for indexing purposes.

The aims of the study should be stated without a detailed literature review.

Material and method

Provide sufficient details about the study. Already published methods should be summarized and cited with a reference. If you are quoting directly from a previously published method, also cite the source. Any changes to existing methods should also be disclosed.


Results

The main findings should be given completely and supported by statistical data, and these findings should also be indicated visually with appropriate tables, graphs, and figures. Findings should be presented logically in the text, tables, and figures, with the most important results first. All the data in tables and figures should not be given in the text, only the important points should be emphasized. The extra material and technical information should be provided in the appendix to ensure that the flow of the text is not disturbed, alternatively, they should only be included in the electronic version. Only figures and tables that support the idea in the article should be included. It should try to use graphs instead of very large tables, and not repeat the same data in graphs and tables.


Discussion

In the discussion section, the data obtained from that study, the findings and results that support or not support the hypothesis in line with the established hypothesis should be examined and these findings and results should be compared with similar studies in the literature, and if there are differences, they should be explained. New and important aspects of the study and its conclusions should be emphasized. The information and data given in the introduction or results section should not be repeated.


Appendices

If there is more than one appendix, they are A, B, etc. should be defined as Formulas, and equations in the appendices should be numbered separately: Eq. (A.1), Eq. (A.2), etc.; in a later appendix, Denk. (B.1), etc. Similarly for tables and figures: Table A.1; Figure A.1, etc.

Abbreviations

Define non-standard abbreviations in this field in a footnote to be placed on the first page of the article. Ensure consistency of abbreviations throughout the article.



Permissions

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright holder for both print and online format and attach evidence of such permission. papers. Any material received without such evidence will be deemed to come from the authors.


Title Page
The title page must include: A separate title page must be submitted with all submissions, and this page must include:
· Name(s) of the author(s)
· A short and informative title
· Membership(s) and address(es) of the author(s)

ORCID IDs of the author(s),
· E-mail address, and phone of the corresponding author
• Acknowledgments to those who contributed to the preparation of the article but did not meet the authorship criteria.


Footnotes
Footnotes may provide additional information, which may include a citation of a reference in the reference list. They should only consist of a reference citation and never contain bibliographic details of reference. They should also not contain any figures or tables.
Footnotes of the text are numbered consecutively; What happens to the tables should be indicated in superscript lowercase letters (or asterisks for significance values ​​and other statistical data). Footnotes given to the title or authors of the article are not given a reference symbol.
Always use footnotes instead of endnotes.

Thanks
Persons, grants, funds, etc. acknowledgments should be placed in a separate section before the reference list. The names of the funding organizations should be written in full.

References
Number them sequentially in the order in which they appear first in the text. Identify text, tables, and references using superscripts after punctuation marks.
Use the Vancouver reference system adopted by the US National Library of Medicine, ensuring that all journal titles conform to Index Medicus-approved abbreviations. If in doubt, refer to the reference list of a recent article published in New Trends in Medical Sciences.
Avoid citing abstracts unless they are from a MEDLINE or EMBASE-indexed journal.

REVISIONS
When submitting a revised version of an article, the author should provide an annotated copy of the main document as to how each issue raised by the reviewers has been addressed and where it can be found (each reviewer's comment followed by the author's response and line numbers where changes have been made).
